January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month.  This horrible corruption of humanity is the fastest growing crime in the entire world and unfortunately it is the 2nd fastest growing crime in the United States, even  right here in Northern Virginia.

Virginians are facing this threat every day. These predators prey on the most vulnerable in our society, our young children, for financial gain.

That is why I enacted Virginia’s stand alone human trafficking statute removing Virginia as the only state without such laws. Prosecutors and law enforcement are now equipped with the proper tools to track and prosecute these sick individuals.

Until we eradicate the abhorrent crime of human trafficking from our community we must remind ourselves that there is still more to do, still more victims that need our protection, and that we must remain vigilant for there are still evil individuals preying on our young people.
