Several months ago, a transformer oil spill occurred at the Dominion Substation in Clifton earlier this year. As a result, many constituents and myself were concerned about the contamination of oil in our environment. While the standard procedure of an oil spill does not include a study of the environmental impact, at my insistence, Dominion Energy conducted a third party examination of the substation.
Fortunately, we are able to ensure a clean bill of health. The results conclude that there was no environmental impact made from the mineral oil spill.
On October 1st, my office held a public information meeting to release the results of the study and answer any questions. Although the study found no negative impact to our environment, my priority is to provide full transparency to our community though both the public information meeting and this letter.
Below is the summary of the study conducted after the oil spill. If you would like more information, click here to see a PDF of the full study.
