Hugo For Lieutenant Governor Weekly Newsletter
Speaking To Grassroots Republicans
This week, I had the opportunity to visit virtually with Republicans in Carroll County as well as the Central Chesapeake Republican Women. We were also in the Shenandoah Valley visiting the Rockbridge Area Republican Committee.
We have another busy week ahead of us. This week, I am looking forward to speaking with Republicans in Prince William, Campbell, Williamsburg, Charlottesville, Washington, and Shenandoah.
We are scheduling more visits with local GOP units everyday. Contact our campaign manager Dustin Rhodes at [email protected] to make sure we have the next meeting time for your local committee.
Consolidating Conservative Support
This week, I was honored to add longtime national leader, conservative icon, and Virginia Republican National Committeeman, Morton Blackwell to our growing list of conservative endorsements.
Morton has been at the forefront of Republican politics and Virginia politics for decades and his support means a great deal to me. I am humbled by the trust he and other conservative leaders have placed in our campaign.
Here is what Morton had to say about our campaign:
“Republicans have a historic opportunity to win up and down the ticket this November, but we must nominate conservative candidates who can win. I am supporting Tim Hugo for Lieutenant Governor because I know he is the candidate best equipped to defeat the Democrats this November. I urge all my fellow Republicans to join me in uniting behind his candidacy.”
I was also pleased to add former conservative Delegate and current Augusta Clerk of the Court Steve Landes to our endorsement list. Here’s what Steve had to say about our campaign:
“Tim was a staunch ally in the fight for commonsense election integrity measures when we were members of the House Privileges and Elections Committee. I know that is a fight he will continue as Lieutenant Governor. I am proud to support his campaign and look forward to working with him to take back our Commonwealth and restore sensible conservative governance in Richmond.”
Issue Spotlight – Immigration
America is a nation of laws and our Commonwealth should be as well. Unfortunately, the Democrats and even some Republicans are actively undermining our federal immigration laws by providing benefits to those who immigrate to America and Virginia illegally. Just recently, the Virginia House of Delegates voted to provide in- state tuition for illegal immigrants.
Let me be clear – this is unacceptable and WRONG. While I fully support legal immigration and am proud to call many first generation Americans friends, we must stand up against these efforts to normalize illegal immigration. It is an assault on the rule of law.
As a Delegate, I consistently voted against measures to give illegal immigrants driver’s licenses, in-state tuition, or any other benefit that should be reserved for American citizens or those who are here legally in the United States. As Lieutenant Governor, I will take that same common sense approach to state level immigration concerns. We cannot continue to provide incentives to those who violate our nation’s laws.
